Is It Fairytale or Fairy Tale?

The terms “fairytale” and “fairy tale” both refer to the make believe or fantasy-based stories. They typically include imaginary or magical elements and characters that include princesses, knights, pirates, mermaids, and fairies, with mythical and unusual creatures. Both words are often used interchangeably though there is a slight distinction between the two, depending on how it is used. If the word stands as a noun, then you would use separate words as “fairy tale”. If it is being used as an adjective describing a noun then you would use “fairytale” as one word, or you can use it with the hyphen as “fairy-tale”.

ADJECTIVE: “She looks like a fairytale princess.”

NOUN: “That dress looks like it is straight out of a fairy tale.”
