A vector graphic is a type of file that is used in graphic design. Vector graphics use formulas instead of pixels within the image. This allows the image or design to scale smaller or larger, without any change to the quality of the image. Vectors can be created using Adobe Illustrator since Photoshop makes use of pixels, which then creates raster graphics.
Vector vs. Raster
Generally, graphics are categorized as either vector or raster. Unlike vector graphics, raster graphics do not scale because they are made of pixels. So, when they are expanded to a larger size, they don’t keep the same quality. In general, vector graphics are easier to use when the design needs to be modified, just as in advertising or for logos. However, raster graphics can also keep their quality if they are made to the correct size, without further changes after the graphic is created.
