An endangered species refers to a specific ranking that indicates a species is at risk of extinction. It is just one of several conservation status categories that shows how the species population is affected. The categories in order are as follows:
- Least concern
- Near threatened
- Vulnerable
- Endangered
- Critically endangered
- Extinct in the wild
- Extinct
Examples of Endangered Species
There are many types of animals that are considered endangered, some more well-known than others. These species are present in various types of biomes and regions. They range from mammals to reptiles, from sea creatures to land animals. Some examples include:
- Sea turtles
- Blue whales
- Red pandas
- Mountain gorillas
- Chimpanzees
- Bluefin tuna

- Tigers
- Whale sharks
